Versatile coffee makers - the full range of coffee specialities
With an CAFFEO® coffee maker, you can prepare all manner of coffee specialities. Depending on the combination of the coffee beans, the quantity of coffee and the amount of water, you can make anything from an espresso to a regular cup of normal coffee. The CAFFEO® coffee maker also have a milk-foaming spout, so that cappuccinos, latte macchiatos and other tasty treats are a breeze to prepare.
One mild, one espresso - two types of bean in a single coffee maker
Most fully-automatic coffee makers offer the option of using a second coffee type as powdered coffee. We recommend in these cases that you use whole beans, which you grind just before preparing the coffee. If you regularly want to use two types of coffee, we recommend CAFFEO® from Melitta® with Bean Select, the 2-chamber bean container. You can then conveniently choose the bean you prefer cup after cup.
Which beans for which coffee? - The rules of thumb for the perfect cup
In principle, there is no catch-all answer to this question - it's all a matter of personal taste. However, there is a rule of thumb that can be helpful: Café Espresso is particularly suitable for the Italian classics espresso or ristretto; Café LaCrema® is particularly ideal for regular and large cups of coffee and for Italian-inspired coffee specialities where you really need a mild roast. If you like coffee and milk specialities, then Café Speciale promises a particularly harmonious taste experience.
Arabica vs. Robusta - are Arabica beans better than Robusta beans?
It depends. There are very high-quality Robusta beans and Arabica beans of lesser quality. For espressos, it is perfectly usual to use a blend of Robusta and Arabica coffees, since the crema lasts longer with some Robustas. However, the extra-fine aroma remains the preserve of the dark-roasted, typical of espresso pure Arabica beans. Just like the BellaCrema® series from Melitta®, which are made from particularly high-quality, 100% Arabica blends.
It's all about the roast
The crucial factor behind a good espresso is high-quality beans that are roasted darker than "regular" coffee beans. To make a good espresso, the coffee powder must only come into contact with the hot water for a very short period. The result is fewer bitter compounds and tannins and less caffeine than with regular filtering methods. Ensure that the beans are ground particularly finely. This way, the valuable flavour compounds are "extracted" better.
The crema - fine, sensual and highly aromatic
The foam that forms on the surface of brewed coffee is known as the crema. It is made up of essential oils and is created by the water which is forced through the coffee powder at high pressure (approx. 15 bar). The crema acts like a protective layer on top of the coffee, since it slows down the evaporation of the fine aromatic compounds.
The colour of coffee gold - a rich currency
The colour of the crema is influenced by various factors. If the crema is too dark, this can be due to the brewing temperature having been too high or the beans were too finely-ground. If it's too light, then this can be due to the coffee being ground too coarsely or the brewing temperature being too low. These parameters can be adjusted on the majority of fully-automatic coffee makers.
They say good things come to those who wait - but a tasty coffee can take just seconds
Depending on the quantity of water, a cup can take between 25 and 55 seconds to prepare. With the CAFFEO® fully-automatic coffee maker, you can prepare two cups at a time in a single brewing process.
Water isn't just water - fine water makes for fine espressos
Water isn't just water. It has different levels of hardness, i.e. varying mineral content. For ideal coffee pleasure it is recommendable to use a special water filter, which extracts lime and annoying flavours from the water and thus protects the coffee maker while guaranteeing the best possible taste. We recommend using the Melitta Pro Aqua water filter for the CAFFEO® models. All models are delivered with a filter.
A coffee break is relaxation time - create the right setting, invite some friends
A good cup of coffee is all about relaxation. Make time for it. Choose a place you feel relaxed and take some time out. Why not invite your friends too? Tell them you're going to make some tasty coffee specialities and ask them round to try them out. In fact, why not give them a call right now?
