FAQ

How is coffee made in a fully automatic coffee maker? How does it differ with a classic filter coffee maker?

In a fully automatic coffee maker, the coffee is prepared under high pressure in a short time, whereas with a classic filter coffee maker, the water flows through a filter with coffee grounds without pressure at approx. 92°C. Due to the pressure in a fully automatic coffee maker, the aromatic compounds are released very rapidly and, with the shorter brewing time, there are less bitter components in the coffee, rendering the coffee milder and with a fuller aroma. A classic filter coffee maker, on the other hand, requires more time to release the full aroma.

Why doesn't the appliance brew any more coffee?

Why isn't there any coffee running out of the coffee spout?
a) Your brewing unit may be clogged.
Remove the brewing unit according to the instructions and thoroughly clean the metal sieve in the brewing unit under warm water. Feel the surface of the sieve to see if there is any coffee grounds residue. Then reinsert the brewing unit into the appliance. Open and close the lid of the ground coffee chute and dispense another coffee.

b) The coffee beans may not be sliding down.
Please check if there are enough coffee beans in the bean container.
If the brewing unit does not contain enough coffee grounds, not enough pressure can build up, and this can cause the coffee grounds to float up and clog the sieve.

c) The grinder setting may be too fine.
Set the lever of your grinder to coarse and adjust the setting again after approx. 500 - 1,000 preparation processes.

Why doesn't the water regulator turn anymore?

The regulator has apparently been turned past the stop and has gotten stuck. Try to loosen the regulator by forcibly turning it back again (if the regulator pointer is set to minimum, turn the regulator clockwise; if the regulator pointer is set to maximum, turn it counter clockwise). If the regulator can be turned again and has an end stop at min. and max., it is functional again.

Why doesn't the appliance grind any more coffee beans?

Perhaps the beans are not sliding down into the grinder. This can be caused by oily beans. Wipe out the bean container with a slightly moistened cloth and a mild commercial dishwashing liquid. You can also try tapping lightly against the bean container.
For the CAFFEO® Bistro / CAFFEO Lounge® / CAFFEO® CI®:
Check if the rocker lever on the Bean Select is pointing at one of the bean container chambers. Move it carefully from one position to the other.
